Extension Spring Manufacturing

As a leading metal spring manufacturer, Tennessee Spring and Metal has been making durable metal springs — and manufacturing extension springs —  for nearly 60 years.

What’s an extension spring?

An extension spring stores energy and exerts a pulling force between two parts or mechanisms. When parts or mechanisms separate, extension springs attempt to pull them together again. Extension springs use round wire to create a close-wound design with initial tension.

How do extension springs work?

Typically, extension springs feature hooks, eyes, or loops that attach to a connecting part or mechanism. The extension spring absorbs and stores energy and provides resistance to a pulling force.

Types of extension springs

Extension springs use hook, eye, or loop end configurations to attach. Extension spring ends may also include threaded inserts, twist loops, extended loops, crossover loops, hooks, rectangular ends, clipped ends, and even teardrop-shaped ends.

Tennessee Spring and Metal extension springs are available in various stock lengths and wire thicknesses and can be custom-made — and painted and coated — to your exact specifications. Extension springs can be made to accommodate specific load requirements. From fine wire to heavy-duty, we create the perfect extension springs for your products.
